What is a disaster?
A disaster can be natural or man-made. Tornadoes, hurricanes and floods are examples of natural disasters. A nuclear accident, a planted bomb or something as unforeseen as the terrorist act of an airplane being flown into the side of a building, are examples of man-made disasters. Disasters impact a community for years following the disaster.
One main goal of Standing Ready is to lessen the devastation and impact of a disaster through preparedness and mitigation. This is done through simple changes, changes that will negate or eliminate damage from future disasters. Spend a few minutes at this site. Even something as simple as filling out our online form could mean the difference of thousands of people surviving a future disaster.
Standing Ready is a pro-active way YOU can help to save lives and prepare yourself and your community so that your family, friends and colleagues survive the next disaster. With your help (and the help of others), you will ensure your community will recover from the next disaster … and return to normalcy.
